a snowy birthday weekend!

Keegan turned 21 a week ago today!
After a surprise visit from my best friend Nora a day early we hunkered down to do some serious celebrating (cake and ice cream eating).
continue for more pictures and yummy snacks!!

We started the weekend off with record breaking low temps across Virginia which securely froze our washer drainage pipe and started a small flood in our laundry room and kitchen, super fun to clean up with three bath towels.

what a good sport!

We cheered ourselves up after with a trip to Crozet Pizza at the Buddhist Biker Bar and devoured a huge pizza and salad.
Keegan had his first legal drink!!

On Friday night we went back to Citizen Burger Bar and stuffed ourselves with locally made burgers and cheese fries with jalapeƱos :))

However, in order to make our far traveling guest feel more comfortable, we tried to also make some meals at home so people didn't have to spend a ton of money. When I have a lot of guests, I hit the frozen food aisle at trader joes for:
Orange Chicken

Chicken and Veggie Dumplings

These items are SO good and easy to make for a crowd. We stir fried some peppers and zucchini on the side and with rice had a full meal! Super quick, super cheap.

Most important is the cake and ice cream though!! I made a two layer cake (Devils Food from a box, obviously the best ever) with vanilla frosting and then put a COOKIE BUTTER layer in the center!! Cookie butter had the consistency of peanut butter but is made out of mashed ginger snap cookies called Speculoos. It was amazing.

Nora had the amazing idea to go to Ben and Jerry's and try out some of their new flavors! We got the peanut butter half baked (everyone LOVED this, I thought it was only ok but I don't like cookie dough), Boom Chocolatta Cookie Core (Mocha and Caramel ice creams with chocolate cookie pieces, fudge flakes, and a center made of cookie crumbs -- this was good but the consensus was that it's the least favorite of the three), and last but not least, my favorite, Peanut Buttah Cookie Core (Peanut Butter ice cream with peanut butter bits and a peanut butter cookie crumb core).

Wow what an intense eating weekend!!

We did survive the snow in the end, but more is coming down hard and fast now.

It was great to have everyone!!
xoxoxo
