hugs…?

I love love love hugs

Every once in a while I get anxious when I haven't hugged someone in a while, then I make Katie hold hands with my while we're at work.

But sometimes, I really do NOT want to be hugged….

events in Washington D.C.

I just got back from spending a long weekend in D.C., it was so lovely hanging out in the city with my friends, very different life pace than I am used to - I slept 11 hour last night in recovery.

On Thursday we helped out at/ attended a charity gala for ClearWater Initiative at the House of Sweden. The non-profit helps empower villages in Uganda with a focus on building wells and creating easier and more efficient ways for everyone to access clean, safe water. It was a beautiful and very fun event, attended by very interesting people, and filled with delicious snacks (shrimp and grits bites anyone?)

all dressed up!

On Friday night, we attended the Falmouth Academy reunion in DC! It was so fun seeing school mates and meeting the new headmaster.

What a whirlwind weekend - we spent the second half in Baltimore where I ate the most delicious pancakes I have ever had in my entire life - but more on that later!

"spring" break

It's been sunny and warm in Charlottesville all week; the frozen ocean in Woods Hole seems like a dream…. but everyone here is so shocked and excited to see the pictures! They can hardly imagine being someplace so cold.

As much as I am enjoying walking around without a coat, I kind of miss the snow if only for the cool pictures I can take! Continue for more...

Keegan turned 21 a week ago today!
After a surprise visit from my best friend Nora a day early we hunkered down to do some serious celebrating (cake and ice cream eating).
continue for more pictures and yummy snacks!!

hellooo 2015

it's been three weeks since I last posted because I was seeing everyone at home and therefore you all knew what I was up to!
three whole weeks and I only read ONE BOOK, that just goes to show what a difference having friends and people to hang out with does to your free time (eats it up).

My january book club book was Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Stout. Each chapter was told from a different perspective of residents in a small Maine town who interacted with the title character Olive Kitteridge. My friend actually read it in a psych class, the book explores different metal states and ways of living and loving. Very sweet, kind of sad, but highly recommended! (Woods Hole library has a copy).

My time at home was wonderful, and it's nice to know that Keegan and I can easily make the drive back in one day.
we left at 7 am to drive back and it took us just over 10 hours with no traffic!
Here's the blue ridge mountains at sunrise. I thought I would miss the ocean more, but I really love the mountains!

Jiggity jig

"Home again home again jiggity jig"
I said this as we were pulling out of the train station last night after our twelve hour train ride back to VA and Keegan almost cried laughin.  Um hello, mother goose rhyme, I am not insane.
I had a great week home for the holiday! Things are going by so fast, I'll be home again in less than three weeks for three weeks!
I read a lot of books while I was home (24 total hours on a train will do that).
The Flight of the Silvers by Daniel Price was a cool science fiction novel about a group of people chosen to survive the end of the world by being moved into another world just like ours except they never entered WWI, so things are similar in essence but totally different in practice. Very cool, love a fun scifi book once in a while.

I finished up Allison Leotta's DC crime mysteries: Discretion and Speak of the Devil, both very interesting diversions about the workings of the sex crimes and homicide divisions of the DC police.

I also read The Thinking Woman's Guide to Real Magic by Emily Croy Barker and The Maze Runner by James Dashner; the stories were fine and exciting, neither was as great as I was hoping but what can you do. The first is about Nora who gets lost in another world, filled with magic DUH, and she has to learn to survive while being hunted by her ex-husband who tricked Nora into marrying him. The other book is about a boy who is delivered to the Glade to live with a pile of other boys and they try to escape this creepy maze they are stuck in.
